Sun Bandit Strikes CSI Rebate Gold, Expands Menu of Solar Water Heating Solutions for Californians

Sun Bandit®

Sun BanditCalifornia’s got a 21st Century gold rush in the works, and it involves not only the savings associated with Sun Bandit’s PV-powered solar water heating and storage solutions, but millions of dollars in incentives for mining the plentiful clean energy of the California sun.

Contractors and consumers installing PV-powered solar water heating and storage solution Sun Bandit can qualify for their share of close to $110 million in incentives from the California Solar Initiative (CSI) Solar Thermal Rebate Program. $92.6 million is available for general market, natural gas-displacing projects and $16.3 million for qualifying low-income single family and multi-family projects.

CSI’s Solar Thermal Program offers cash rebates of up to $4,366 on solar water heating systems for single family residential customers. Multi-family and Commercial properties qualify for rebates of up to $800,000. And the rebates are in most instances combinable with a 30% federal Investment Tax Credit (ITC*).

The track record of solar savings in the Golden State is solid as the Sierras.

“Californians can slash their water heating bills by up to 75% using solar technology,” said Kelly Knutsen, Senior Policy Advisor for solar industry trade group the California Solar Energy Industries Association (CALSEIA), who is working with legislators to extend solar thermal rebates through 2019.

While solar water heating solutions like Sun Bandit empower property owners, businesses and consumers to slash water heating costs by 75%, the rebates can reduce equipment and installation costs for consumers by up to 75% as well.

CSI Solar Thermal Program rebates are administered through CSI program administrators covering four distinct areas:  the Center for Sustainable Energy in the San Diego Gas & Electric (SDG&E) service territory; Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E), who serves 5.2 million households and businesses in the northern two-thirds of California; Southern California Gas Company and Southern California Edison (SCE).

Use this CSI Incentive Calculator to determine the solar savings you can realize with your Next Generation Energy Sun Bandit solution.

Sun Bandit contractors and installers interested in participating in the CSI Solar Thermal Rebate Program must attend a mandatory, no-cost training session.   Once qualified, contractors can receive Web-based leads via the CSI program website. Click on any of the aforementioned program administrator links to learn how to register.

The California Solar Initiative is a $2.3 billion program designed to encourage installation of 3,000 megawatts of clean, money-saving solar energy and 585 therms of gas-displacing solar hot water systems among customers of California’s investor-owned utilities.  Its aim is to 1) reduce the carbon pollution from fossil fuel-fed power plants, 2) increase solar savings for businesses and consumers and 3) support jobs for contractors and energy professionals throughout California.

“CSI’s recognition of Sun Bandit’s patented ‘wire to water’ technology offers Californians simplified, utility-independent solar water heating and storage solutions that eliminate the mechanical and freezing issues that have plagued old-school solar thermal for decades,” said Sun Bandit parent Next Generation Energy’s COO Lori Beedon. “Our qualifying for CSI rebates dovetails with our mission of affording businesses, contractors and consumers an entirely new field of options to accelerate solar adoption in the Golden State.”
